Gregor Sperzel

Career

Gregor Sperzel is one of the versatile tromboneplayers, based in the moment in Amsterdam, enjoying a multi-faceted career as a performer, educator, composer, arranger and teamplayer.

Born in 1994 in Schlüchtern, he had his first trombone lesson with Johannes Goltz at the age of 9. His first experience playing in an ensemble was with the UvH Big Band in Schlüchtern. Later, he joined the Caravan Big Band and the Youth Jazz Orchestra of state Hessen in Germany (Kicks & Sticks).

He won first prizes in solo, combo and big band categories at the national competition “Jugend Jazzt“ in Germany and afterwards he was awarded the soloist prize of the NDR Big Band in 2016, with whom he subsequently performed as part of the competition.

In 2020, he finished successfully his bachelor of music and has been started his master study in jazz trombone at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Among the key teachers who have influenced him are Erik van Lier, Felix Fromm, Martijn Sohier, Bert Boeren, Ilja Reinhoud, Jilt Jansma and Bart van Lier.

He was/is an active member of various ensembles such as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Germany (BuJazzO), the National Jazz Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJJO), the Millennium Jazz Orchestra, The Dutch Jazz Collective, Jong Metropole Orchestra, Valvetronic Brassband, the Novi Orchestra and The Lucas Figueiredo Santana Nonet.

Werdegang

1994 in Schlüchtern geboren, erhielt er mit 9 Jahren seinen ersten Posaunenunterricht bei Johannes Goltz, später bei Arno Classen. Seine ersten Erfahrungen in einem Ensemble zu spielen, sammelte er in der UvH Big Band Schlüchtern. Später erfolgte der Eintritt in die Caravan Big Band und in das Landes-Jugend-Jazz-Orchester Hessen (Kicks & Sticks).

Beim hessischen Landeswettbewerb „Jugend Jazzt“ konnte er erste Preise in Solo-, Combo- und Big Bandwertung erzielen. Auf Bundesebene wurde er 2016 mit dem Solistenpreis der NDR Big Band ausgezeichnet, mit der er anschließend im Rahmen des Wettbewerbs konzertieren durfte.

In 2020 schloss er erfolgreich seinen Bachelor of Music ab und studiert seitdem den Masterstudiengang im Hauptfach Jazzposaune am Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Zu den maßgeblichen Lehrern, die ihn bisher beeinflusst haben, zählen Erik van Lier, Felix Fromm, Martijn Sohier, Bert Boeren, Ilja Reinhoud, Jilt Jansma und Bart van Lier.

Er war/ist aktives Mitglied in unterschiedlichen Ensembles wie z.B. dem Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO), National Jazz Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJJO), Millennium Jazz Orchestra, The Dutch Jazz Collective, Jong Metropole Orchestra, Valvetronic Brassband, the Novi Orchestra und dem Lucas Figueiredo Santana Nonett.
